Wall-model integrated computational framework for large-eddy simulations of wall-bounded flows

چکیده

The wall-modeled large-eddy simulation (WMLES) computational framework generally includes a wall-model solver outside the (LES) infrastructure, with two solvers communicating only at matching location and wall. Having LES jeopardizes performance of WMLES: first, adds significant overhead; second, solution in wall-adjacent cell is ambiguous; third, it very difficult to utilize emerging high-order numerical schemes. This paper addresses above issues by abandoning altogether integrating wall models into solvers. We will employ set physics-inspired bases for reconstruction cell. methodology gives rise that effortlessly accounts non-equilibrium effects code without stand-alone solver. consider channel flow proof concept periodic hill validation.

Wall-layer Models for Large-eddy Simulations

■ Abstract Because the cost of large-eddy simulations (LES) of wall-bounded flows that resolve all the important eddies depends strongly on the Reynolds number, methods to bypass the wall layer are required to perform high-Reynolds-number LES at a reasonable cost. In this paper the available methodologies are reviewed, and their ranges of applicability are highlighted. Various unresolved issues...

Shear-improved Smagorinsky model for large-eddy simulation of wall-bounded turbulent flows

A shear-improved Smagorinsky model is introduced based on recent results concerning shear effects in wall-bounded turbulence by Toschi et al. (2000). The Smagorinsky eddyviscosity is modified as νT = (Cs∆) (|S|−|〈S〉|): the magnitude of the mean shear |〈S〉| is subtracted to the magnitude of the instantaneous resolved strain-rate tensor |S|; here CS is the standard Smagorinsky constant and ∆ deno...

A parametrized non-equilibrium wall-model for large-eddy simulations

Wall-models are essential for enabling large-eddy simulations of realistic problems at high Reynolds numbers. The present study is focused on approaches that directly model the wall shear stress, specifically on filling the gap between models based on wall-normal ordinary differential equations (ODEs) that assume equilibrium and models based on full partial differential equations that do not. W...

Application of parallel algebraic multilevel domain decomposition preconditioners in large eddy simulations of wall-bounded turbulent flows: first experiments

In this work we analyze the behaviour of multilevel Domain Decomposition preconditioners, coupled with Krylov solvers, in the solution of linear systems arising in the application of a projection-based method to the numerical simulation of uncompressible wall-bounded turbulent flows. We consider a Large Eddy Simulation (LES) approach, where a high-order filter is applied to the Navier-Stokes eq...
